Sembrano Intro Climb

July 10-11, 2010
Brgy. Malaya, Pililia, Rizal

Mount Sembrano sits at the helm of Jalajala peninsula near Laguna Lake in a way that the lake surrounds the mountain on three sides. Once a haven of New People’s Army insurgents, it is now a popular hiking destination, offering a view of Laguna Lake, Talim Island, and the Tagalog provinces of Rizal and Laguna.

It is located along the boundaries of Jalajala, Rizal, Pililla, Rizal and Pakil, Laguna, although the most common starting point for the climb up is from Barangay, Malaya, Pililla, Rizal.
It is known in legend for the miraculous discovery of the icon of Our Lady of Maulawin, whose shrine can be found on the Jalajala side.

One famous feature is the view of the “Bundok ng Susong Dalaga” (Maiden’s breast mountains) – two huge mounds of conical hills resembling the female breast, which are the highest peaks on neighboring Talim Island. These two hills are among the more famous of several hills in the Tagalog regions who share the same name, because local folks of old often named identical conical hills as such. This feature is best observed from Mt. Sembrano.
